Property Maintenance: Keeping Whispering Hills Beautiful

The Summer Village of Whispering Hills is committed to maintaining a clean, safe, and visually appealing community. To help achieve this, the Unsightly Premises Bylaw outlines standards for property upkeep that all residents must follow.

These rules are in place to protect property values, public safety, and the enjoyment of our community for everyone.

What’s Expected of Property Owners

You must keep both your land and buildings in good condition. This includes:

On Your Lot (Land):
  • No excessive piles of junk, garbage, or debris (including building materials, tires, or household items)
  • No damaged, dismantled, or derelict vehicles stored on site
  • Grass and weeds must be kept under 20 cm (8 inches)
  • No uncontained compost that smells or attracts pests
  • No standing water or open excavations that could pose a danger
  • Keep dust, smoke, and odours from becoming a nuisance
Your Home and Buildings:
  • Buildings must be structurally sound and weatherproof
  • No graffiti, rot, broken windows, or obvious deterioration
  • Unoccupied homes must be properly boarded up in a clean, secure manner

Waste Storage

  • Waste bins must have lids and be kept closed except when being used
  • If you use a roll-off bin, it must only contain odor-free material and be kept covered
  • Discarded appliances (like fridges or freezers) must have doors removed or secured so they cannot be opened

🚫 What’s Not Allowed:

  • Littering on another person’s property
  • Letting your yard become overgrown or hazardous
  • Storing waste or large items long-term in open areas
If There’s a Problem…

The Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) may issue a compliance order if a property is found to be in violation. If the issue is not resolved within the timeline provided, the Summer Village may take corrective action at the owner’s expense. Fines for violations start at $250 and may increase for repeat offences. Unpaid fines may be added to your property taxes.

We all play a part in making Whispering Hills a place we’re proud to call home. Thank you for keeping your property safe, clean, and beautiful.
