Private Docks for Waterfront Property Owners

If your property backs directly onto the lake, you may install a dock—but it must comply with Alberta’s Water Act and the Disturbance Standards for Temporary Seasonal Docks and Other Mooring Structures.

Key points:

Only one temporary, seasonal dock is allowed per lakefront property.
No formal provincial approval is needed if your dock complies with the provincial disturbance standard.
Docks must not interfere with shoreline vegetation, fish habitat, or public access.
Docks must be installed and removed seasonally—no permanent structures or alterations are permitted.

Municipal Dock Rentals

For residents without direct lake access, the Summer Village owns and manages 10 dock slips, located at:

Stormin Norman: 3 Single Slips, 2 Double Slips
The Narrows: 3 Single Slips, 2 Double Slips

👉 All municipal dock slips are currently rented. These docks were purchased by current agreement holders, and they receive first right of refusal each year to renew their same slip.

If a renter chooses not to renew, the dock will be offered to the next person on the waiting list.

To be added to the waiting list, please contact the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) at the Summer Village office.

Important Reminders for Renters:

Dock rentals are only available to registered landowners in Whispering Hills.
The season runs May 1 – September 30.
Rental fees: $800 for single slips, $1,000 for double slips.
Slips are non-transferable and cannot be subleased.
Docks must be kept clean, safe, and orderly, and removed or cleared at the end of the season or upon 30 days' notice from the Summer Village.
For full rental policy details, contact the CAO or refer to the official Dock Rental Policy.

Let’s all work together to keep our lakefront safe, accessible, and environmentally responsible—for all to enjoy!
