Reserve Lands: Shared Spaces for Nature & Community

The Summer Village of Whispering Hills includes several parcels of Municipal Reserve (MR) land, which are public spaces set aside to preserve natural areas, support community enjoyment, and protect the environment. These lands are owned by the municipality on behalf of all residents and are not to be treated as private property.

What Are Reserve Lands?

Municipal Reserve lands are typically located along the shoreline, between lots, or at the end of roadways. Their purpose is to:

Preserve green space and natural vegetation
Provide access to the lake and trails
Prevent erosion and protect riparian areas
Offer recreational opportunities in a natural setting

What Is Allowed:

✅ Walking and passive recreation (e.g., hiking, wildlife viewing)
✅ Seasonal access paths to the lake (must be low-impact and not cleared without permission)
✅ Temporary, removable docks and boat lifts, with written permission from the Summer Village
✅ Community use such as informal gatherings or nature exploration

What Is Not Allowed:

❌ Clearing, mowing, or landscaping without municipal approval
❌ Permanent structures (e.g., sheds, fire pits, decks, or stairs)
❌ Tree removal or trimming
❌ Storing personal items such as boats, trailers, or firewood
❌ Campfires or open burning
❌ Exclusive use or blocking access to other residents

Reserve land must remain natural and accessible for everyone. Residents are not permitted to modify or claim these spaces for personal use. If you’re unsure whether an activity is permitted on or near reserve land, please contact the CAO before proceeding.

Let’s respect and protect our reserve lands so they continue to provide beauty, access, and environmental protection for generations to come.
