Trees: Preserving the Natural Beauty of Whispering Hills
Trees are a defining feature of Whispering Hills—they provide shade, privacy, wildlife habitat, and that peaceful, forested feel we all love. As residents, we each have a role to play in protecting and respecting our natural tree cover, both on private property and in public or municipal reserve areas.
On Your Property
- You are welcome to manage trees on your lot, but all changes must comply with the Land Use Bylaw, which includes rules about minimum tree coverage.
- Before removing a significant number of trees, be sure to check the bylaw to confirm how much tree cover must be retained on your lot.
- Selective and thoughtful removal is encouraged—especially when it comes to mature trees that help with slope stability, drainage, and aesthetics.
On Municipal Reserve or Public Land
- Do not cut, trim, or alter trees on any public land, reserve land, or road allowance without written permission from the Summer Village.
- These areas are protected to preserve natural beauty, reduce erosion, and maintain public enjoyment.
- Unauthorized tree removal may result in penalties or required restoration.
Planting New Trees
Want to add some greenery? Great! Native species such as spruce, aspen, and poplar are recommended, as they are well-suited to local conditions and support local wildlife. When planting, make sure to respect property lines, sightlines, and future growth.
