Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) Use: Enjoy Responsibly

The Summer Village of Whispering Hills permits the use of Off-Highway Vehicles (OHVs), such as ATVs and snowmobiles, under specific regulations to ensure safety and community harmony.

Where You Can Ride
  • Permitted Areas: OHVs are allowed on municipal roads within the village boundaries.
  • Prohibited Areas: Operating OHVs in ditches, medians, or boulevards is not permitted.
  • Crossing Restricted Zones: You may cross ditches or medians using the most direct and shortest route to access or exit a highway.
Safety and Equipment Requirements

Ensure your OHV is equipped with:

  • Headlights: At least one white headlamp that illuminates objects 60 meters ahead.
Taillights: A red light visible from 60 meters behind.
  • Muffler: An exhaust system that reduces noise and prevents sparks; modifications like widening or removing baffles are prohibited.
  • Trailer Hitch (if towing): A secure hitch not exceeding 1.8 meters in length, ensuring the towed vehicle follows safely.
🧒 Age and Supervision
  • Operators 14 Years and Older: May operate an OHV without supervision.
  • Operators Under 14 Years: Must be supervised by someone 18 years or older, either riding as a passenger or in close proximity.
📝 Registration and Insurance

Your OHV must be:

  • Registered and Insured: If operated in public places, on highways, or by someone other than the owner.
  • License Plate: Securely attached, clearly visible, and displaying current validation tabs.
⚠️ Speed and Operation
  • Speed Limit: Maximum of 30 km/h on municipal roads.
  • Travel Lane: Operate within the parking lane or, if unavailable, on the extreme right-hand side of the road, always in single file.
